I want to throw this out here and see if anyone would like to do this. Some people may want to try thread, but are a little nervous about stepping out on their own. One good way is to join a CAL and have the support of others that are working on the same thing!
So, if you would like to try a thread pattern, I will find a beginner's doily to do. We would use size 10 thread and a 7 hook. We would start this CAL about the first of September.
I am also posting for another CAL for those with more experience. Depending on the response, we may join them or keep them separate.
There are some beautiful things that can be made with thread and this is the perfect time of year ,here in the states, at least, to be doing thread work!
Ya know, hot!
Let me have some input and let's have some threadie fun!

I would like to join in, but I'll be out of the country from the 27th. till the 3rd. Is this something that we could catch up on? Or maybe wait till after the holiday?
I have thread here just waiting for the "right" project. |

It sure is Loomie!! Usually a pattern is set and then you go at your own rate. Sometimes there's a deadline but not usually.
Welcome!! |

Like lIsa said, thiskind of thing is a go at your own pace. I probably will have it ready to go around the first, but it shouldn't be a problem to wait a couple of days.
Thanks Trish for offering your help!
I am looking around for something pretty but not a huge project.
Great response ya'll! We will have a lot of fun on this!
Anybody else that wants to join in is welcome! |

I got to thinking about the Beginner's CAL. Instead of a doily, how about coasters? That way it is not as slow going and you would get a sense of accomplishment fairly quickly! Then after you complete one, you can make a set. Practicing the following ones with the same pattern will help to increase your confidence and even out any stitch or gauge issues.
What ya think?
I found this pattern which is easy and pretty.

I've been wanting to try thread crochet for quite awhile but everytime I see something made, I wimp out thinking that it's too difficult for me. I don't have a soul around who knows how to crochet in general, let alone with thread!
So, count me in and I'll give it a try with a teacher in the wings if I get stuck, which most likely, I will.
Cheers, Laura |

| My advice, when you start with thread, use a larger hook size than the pattern calls for, work down to the smaller hooks. That was my mistake in the beginning. Sure, it will be larger than called for, but you'll get the feel of thread and the technicque. If you are making a doily, size doesn't matter much anyways. I'm here cheering you on, heck I may even do those beautiful coasters :) |

| This is great to see so many people wanting to try their hand at thread. How about we start this around the 4th of September? My kids will be back in school, the Labor day holiday will be over. Is that ok with everyone? And is the pattern acceptable? |
