I took my mother to the huge quilt show north of Atlanta yesterday.

She so enjoyed seeing people she knew, and some long-time friends.

We made a point to stop at the treadle sewing machine demonstration.  A woman on the treadle forum had posted that she would be there.  Turns out her sewing machine is the same as mine, only hers is two years older. Same model.  It was great.

I was quite encouraged to see that a "hot shot" would use the same machine as my simple one.

She also showed us how much control one has when using a hand crank.  A wonderful, portable sewing machine.

There were some lovely quilts, amazing ones, and a few that looked like first-tries.

The best part was being with my mother, doing something that is so dear to her.

We even found a nice place to eat afterwards, which was a relief.  (A few of our restaurant excursions of late have been disappointing.)

I wondered how it is that the quilters get such things together, and the crocheters?????

Anyway, it was a very special day.

That sounds like a wonderful day. My Mom lives about 3,000 miles away. I got to see her last month, though.

That's pretty neat about your sewing machine and hers being the same.

Glad you had a nice day with our mom.
My SIL belongs to a Quilting group and some of the quilts are amazing.

Quilting is another art that I was afraid would be lost.  But luckily, it has made a Big comeback.

Serena, glad you and your mom got to share some fun time together.

Miss Kitty and TXCL, thanks much for your kind thoughts, too.

The quilters amaze me. There is so much going on.  The quilt stores are full of life.  Seems as though almost everyone knows each other.  They've "built" a wonderful community.

Sounds like you two had a wonderful day.
I wish I had gotten to do something like that with my Mom.
She did quilting but never got into groups or going to conventions,
gatherings or such.

All in my family do quilting but me. My Aunt (by marriage)
did hem stiching and crochet. I can remember how beautiful
it was and guess I went for crochet from seeing her work.

I tried the quilting but just never did like it as much as I did the crocheting

Kahud, same here.  I manage to sew a button on and mend a thing or two.

I think about sewing, and have the treadle machine, but I haven't got it going yet!

I love how crocheting is so simple, in regard to tools.

It can be portable and easy, or complex and require a special light.

A hook and some yarn or thread, and beautiful things appear.  I just love crochet!

Me too Serena on having a special light. I can't see like I use to so I have this light on the wall over my left shoulder where I sit on the sofa

If I didn't have that light, there is no telling what kind of stitches I would crochet into my patterns, LOL!
