I got a cone of cotton worsted for $3 today.  The lady at the check-out in front of me told me about it.  There were also a few bins of acrylic yarns on clearance for 50 cents per skein.

If you've got a Walmart nearby, it might be worth checking.

I hadn't planned on buying any yarn for quite awhile, but this $3 deal helped my Christmas list.

I'll have to keep checking on that.  We have 3 Walmarts here and the one I was in on Wednesday didn't have anything marked down yet, but I'll keep looking.

The Walmart closest to me is a Super Walmart and is in the process of being vamped to look like more modern Walmarts.  The departments have been moved.  Items within depts. have been moved.  It looks as tho' some items have been or are being discontinued.  I don't know where the yarn and thread have gone.  I was told they were discontinuing fabric altogether.

There are several clearance aisles throughout the store.  The clearance yarn was in the garden dept. this morning.

I'm guessing that Hobby Lobby, across the parking lot will get more business.

When I find the yarn and thread aisle, I'll post a report.  It's too bad that so much is being done away with.  It was handy having Caron one-pounders at Walmart, and DMC Baroque.  Now it's just Aunt Lydia's and some JP Coats Nylon. That was the thread stock before the vamping of the store began.

Being open round the clock, one would think they'd have great yarn and special sales to attract those who are "in need" of thread and yarn at odd hours!

Serena the walmart here remodeled and I hate it.they did away with alot of things. The yarn dept was cut down to 1/4 isle. The cost of everything went up. And to add insult to injury they stopped carring the stuff I used the most. The store is a nightmare. Glad you got a good buy.

Anoramaxsis, I'm sorry the store near you cut out what you liked.  Hope you've found a place to get supplies.

They redid our Wally World last year.. I still go in there and think "Where the heck did they put this??" Starting to get used to it. I have to go to JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby or Michael's now for supplies.

I found the yarn.  It is now on one side of a short aisle, with nothing on the end caps. There are few choices.  Only Boye hooks and knitting needles.  I didn't note too much of the acrylic yarn, but did see Red Heart, Homespun, Fun Fur and some thin textured stuff.

Thread: white in Aunt Lydia's and America's Best, beige in Aunt Lydia's. All the balls are about six inches tall. JP Coats nylon thread in black.  One ball of Aunt Lydia's size 3 in dark rose.

Cotton worsted:  Peaches'n'creme.  A few skeins, and most of the cones were cleared out. No yellow, blue, rose, or white skeins, mostly current trendy colors, and one variegated.  Colors remaining in cones: beige, beige with pale-colored speckles, and one other, which I don't remember.

I didn't see any pattern books or leaftlets for crochet or knitting.

The woman who works in that department was very surprised to see how much had been discontinued.  She agreed that folks will go to HL, Michael's and JoAnn's now.

The television department, however, looks to have doubled in size, along with the size of the televisions.  That dep't is just next to the yarn, and was blaring away.

The employees are still wondering where everything is and what will happen next.

I'll report on the other stores next time I go.
