Yeah, I think I was thinking the same thing you were thinking, Jodi. I do knit, and I don't know what it means, either. Hmmm.... Did you try going to knitting pattern central maybe? I found this page of abbreviations there, but I don't think it is any help it doesn't have WF, only wyif (with yarn in front). Here it is:http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/knitting-glossary

I found it.
WF means Wool Forward, same thing as Yarn forward. I am working the afghan pattern and it is working out right in each row, so far no stitches left over, or to little.
Boy, that must be an old pattern. Haven't seen wool instead of yarn for along time..Some of the hand written patterns Great-Gandmother's used to be like that..
This is the pattern http://www.mycraftbook.com/craftidea.asp?craftID=7
I was just playing around trying something new with what needles I have.
I saw this one that looks like it is done in sort of a mile a minute fashion.
I sort of like the look, it would make a very nice scarf.
I noticed that with this pattern there is always a knit stitch before and after the WF or YF.
When you do a knit stitch, then you just wrap your working yarn over the needle forward
(away from you, and then knit the next stitch).
There is probably a wool over or yarn over in Purl to,
I don't know yet but I'm sure there probably is. maybe not
The same when you see YB (Yarn Backward) except for wrap the yarn over needle toward you.
This is what I come away with in my thinking.
Oh yeah Selena, I did up a few rows of the pattern last night and what it comes out like is a ripple pattern. I will post a pic but not sure if you can see it well because I did it with my bright red yarn. That color doesn't make for great pics.
Good Job!!
wyif- with yarn in front- as if to purl.. Way back when they only knitted with wool or cotton. Wool Forward. There was Wool and Thread ( cotton).
wyib- with yarn in back - as if to knit. wool behind
Thanks Miss Kitty........
Without the computer and the internet I would have never
figured out just what they were talking about, and that animated
tutorial is a great help for us beginners too!
You are welcome Selena.
You know me, I love to surf the net and when I find things like this site
I will post them here for us to help in our learning
I would never be able to knit without the helpful sites like this one, I just about have to see it done to understand what they have written down on patterns. I am still having trouble with reading some of the patterns, hopefully that will get easier for me to do soon.
