During the winter months I crocheted several pairs of socks. One brand of yarn I used was this sock yarn.
http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/sockease.html
Lion Brand Sock-Ease
Finished with aloe vera
Fiber: 75% wool, 25% nylon
Skein: 3.50 oz./100 g (438 yd/400 m)
Gauge:
Knit: 30 stitches x 40 rows = 4" (10 cm) on Size 2 (2.75 mm) needles
Crochet: 24 stitches x 30 rows = 4" (10 cm) on size D-3 (3.24mm) hook
Machine washable and dryable.
Bought at Hobby Lobby for $9.99. Sometimes you can find it on sale there and online you can find sales.
This skein made one pair of socks with some left over. The socks I made were not like knee socks, they were crew socks.
I liked working with this yarn, the striping was nice. The yarn has held up to numerous trips through the washing machine and dryer. The colors stayed true. I used a colorway called Cotton Candy(pinks and yellow and purples) The yarn is not quite as soft as Paton's Kroy though. I have not knit with this yarn.
Would I use this yarn again? Yes.

TXCL, thanks much for the review. Would you use the yarn for something other than socks?

Sure! Anything that called for super fine yarn. I think sock yarn is listed as a one.

Lion calls this a one- super fine on the ball band. I don't know in relation to other sock yarns if that designation is standard and true in sizing or not.

Does Lion even sell a lace weight yarn? I wish the yarn companies would get standardized(is that a word?). Hold on... Ok, I just went and looked at some Red Heart Lustersheen. It says on the ball band Sport. Fine.2. I pulled the Lion sockease to compare. Superfine.1
The Sockease is slightly smaller than the Lustersheen by sight. On ravelry, this is the info. Heck it is so hard to figure out by the ball bands, etc.
