Beeton's Book of Needlework (from 1870)Found this while searching for a doily pattern:
http://www.allfreecrafts.com/crochet/BeetonCrochet.pdf
It has knitting and crochet patterns.
Some of these are exquisite!
Written by Isabella Beeton, first published in 1870.

It's funny, the spelling for doily is d'oyley. And puff stitches are called spots. I may try to make the Crochet brioche Cushion. The instructions are kinda different from what we are used to but it would be interesting to figure it out!

TXCL, I have seen sites which explain these older stitches. I'll see if I can find one and post the link.
Here's one: http://www.crochettreasures.com/vintagestitches.htm
The last listing is from the late 1800's and may be more appropriate for the Beeton book.
