Am going to a local diner today for what I hope will be a get-together with other crocheters. It's a strange thing to post a couple of notices and wait for others to appear.

There are no crochet groups near me. Have looked for several years. Decided to be daring and see what happens.

Will you all send me happy-crochet-get-together thoughts today?

It'd be so nice to have a little sit-and-sew group, to meet once a month, swap, talk shop, and have nice visits.

Miss Kitty, thanks for trying to think of something. I've checked Meet-up many times over several years. There is one group that meets at night, in a not-so-safe neighborhood, about an hour's drive from me.

I've tried churches, Yahoo groups, yarn shops, asking people in the yarn-and-hook aisles of Walmart, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's and Michaels, as well as posting notices in church newsletters. It's been exhausting, tedious, and disappointing. Church groups are very clique-ish, as are the charity groups. They all have their agendas.

The spinning guild, and the quilt guilds I've visited are most welcoming to people of all "flavors" and styles, and encourage each one to do things her own way, in her own time. There is an inclusiveness and encouragement in these guilds that is full of life and freedom. 'Tain't the case with the other groups. I'm hoping for a sit-and-sew group like the ones my mother goes to with her quilting friends. They really are lovely.

I decided it was time for something new! Am hoping today will come to something nice.

My prayer is for the right people to come.

If no one comes, I just might drink some tea and enjoy the diner.

I'm back. I was the only one, but I had a very nice time. I hadn't treated myself to going out for several months. I splurged and drank iced tea! Ordered an egg and hash browns. Mmmmm, with a little hot sauce. My fav.

Then I started a lap robe, one of those eeeeasy ones.

Had a nice chat with the waitress about cats and ballpoint pens. It wasn't busy.

I'm obviously not the only one who isn't going out much, but, rather staying home more and keeping track of pennies.

I'll post a notice again in a few weeks on the Yahoo group and see if someone comes. It'll be good for me to go out again, in any case.

A little planned niceties-money makes life, well, nicer.

It was a nice little vacation.

Otherwise, I'll visit a spinning group. They are glad to have visitors of all fiber-related sorts.

Do you have a book store close by? Maybe you can start one for knitting/crocheting there??

Miss Kitty, I don't really mind that I had a crochet date in solitude. It was nice to go out.

The bookstores are much farther away than the diner.

I've signed up on a couple of Yahoo groups, perhaps someone will come along, who is in the area.

If no one shows interest, I'll go visit the spinners. They are a friendly, welcoming bunch, if a tad wild.
