Knitted Music Notes Dishcloth and Yarn Over Cable Dishcloth

Here are two dishcloths I finished recently. The music notes one I made for our oldest son, because he plays guitar and piano, and it's his job to do the dishes after dinner. (And he LOVES to do them with knitted cloths...  NOT)  He might just use it for a coaster or something, who knows...

The Yarn Over Cable is from a dishcloth weekly knitalong group I am in on ravelry.  I don't do one every week, but...

I like how the back just looks like ribbing:

Thanks for looking.  Don't know how to post links so here is the urls for these cloths:

Those are pretty Tina, he will love his dishcloth.
You got it, that's how you do the links

Tina, I love the way yours turned out, both of them, but I really like that notes one. Do you think the notes pattern is easy enough for this novice?  It looks like just knit and purls?
Mom w/a Motif

Yes, it is very easy. Just follow what the pattern says.  I first started out knitting dishcloths in a dishcloth knitalong group and we did a lot of the picture cloths. Just knit and purl, yup.

The wash cloths are fun Selena. I did this one for Miss Kitty in the swap.

I did hers in a dark western blue. I hope she likes it
TX CrochetLover

Oh wow, those cloths are so cute on her site.  Thanks Kathy!
Tina, I started the notes cloth last night.  We'll see how I do.
Miss Kitty

awwww, that's purtty kathy.. now I know what's in the mail..
I'm going to have to bookmark that site. Their's some nice ones there..
Mom w/a Motif

I like that Spring one, Kathy.  I found a page yesterday; this woman must have over 200 dishcloths for sale!!  I wasn't even halfway down the page and it seemed like it was already 200 I had gone through.  I bought the 'guitar' one to make next.     It is going to be a present for my oldest son.       (He hates to wash dishes w/ knit cloths, but he likes when I make him anything... so.  we'll see.)

Here is the link to the page with all the cloths:http://digknittydesigns.blogspot.com/  I think I found it at ravelry somehow.     Every thing you could imagine to make a dishcloth, of.

Kahud48

Mom w/a Motif

It turned out great!  I like yours.  I got some yellow to make one of these for my Grandma (she plays piano), too.  Great job!

Great job TX Crochetlover!!!
That's good pratice. Think you have your knit and purl down pat and your tension looks good, too..
TX CrochetLover

Thanks ya'll.  I started the one Kathy made Miss Kitty in I love that cotton in sage.  These picture cloths are fun!
Miss Kitty

I know I like doing them too..
Here is another one that I just finished that was kinda fun to do too.

Mom w/a Motif

I have been wanting to do that ballband one forever.  Someday...
TX CrochetLover

I will look at that more closely, but already there are terms I don't know!  But I am pretty sure you guys will help me!  BTW, Miss Kitty, the Harmony needles you sent me in the cabin fever swap- I love them!  I am using them for this dishcloth and they are sooooo smooth!  And the colors.  I didn't appreciate the colors on the needles until I started using them.  So nice!  Thank you so much for introducing me to such beautiful tools!
Miss Kitty

You are very welcome..They are nice.
What do you think of the I Love that Cotton??
What terms are you having trouble with??
TX CrochetLover

There are things in the pattern I don't know how to do.  I haven't done slip stitches? yet and I don't quite understand YB or YF and why.  The I Love This Cotton is really smooth, soft and shiny.  But it didn't show the stitches up like the lion brand cotton I used on the other cloth.  Later today I will post a pic of the one I finished last night.
Miss Kitty

The slip stitch you just slip the stitch from left hand needle to the right hand needle like you are going to purl it.. The yb is to put the yarn in back of your work, Like you were to knit. yf is just to have the yarn in front as if to purl.
They want you to do that so that the yarn is not crossing over the slip stitch on the right (front side) of the dishcloth.. Only crossing in the back.

As in the picture the vertical white stitches. Those are the slip stitches..
TX CrochetLover

Wow!  I had no idea slip stitches were that easy!  Thanks! Now here is the I Love That Cotton cloth Springing Up Flowers in Sage.

The first one is kinda hard to see but it shows the color better.  The second one is with the flash and it shows the pattern better.
Miss Kitty

Very pretty.. Looks like mine I got from Kathy but mine is blue..
Mom w/a Motif

That's really pretty.  It's hard to get the 'picture' on cloths sometimes. (I just took a picture of one this morning...) :P
Kahud48

Isn't this one fun to make Selena? I really do like how
the flowers pop out at you in this one.
Slip stitches are very easy. That's what I was doing when I first started trying to knit, I was making it to hard and it really isn't all that hard at all.

Can't wait to see whatelse you make
It is so much fun to be learning to knit together
Miss Kitty

And Mom w/a Motif Just posted a link for over 500 more patterns here
TX CrochetLover

Tina, I am about to spend some money on the digknitty site.  But that is a deal on her buy 5 get 5 free, etc sale!

Yeah, Kathy, it is fun to learn something new and be able to share our little steps as well as big ones!  When I learned to crochet, it was books or mags you had to buy, or friends and I only had one friend that crocheted and all she did was afghans.  I've learned a whole lot more since the internet became a resource.
TX CrochetLover

Oh, idea just popped into my head.  These dishcloth patterns can be turned into hot pads.    Yeah, I just ordered some dishcloth patterns  from Lisa at the digknitty site and it took a lonnng time to decide with all she had to offer.  woohoo!!!!!!!!
I got some pretty ones!!!  And some pretty unique ones that I will give the FOs as gifts.  I am excited! Now for real I have to get busy working out and then on to the crochet top.
Miss Kitty

Hotpads or afghan.
TX CrochetLover

How you going to work an afghan. squares then assemble them?  I also thought about doing a hand towel, just use the pattern in the center or on one end or both.  Haven't thought that one through yet.  I just pulled out my knitting needles to start one of the ones I got today in my email from digknitty.  She was fast to send after my paypal confirmation went through.  Oh, I love, love new patterns!
Miss Kitty

Yea, do the squares and then sew them together for an afghan or pillow.
ahhh, You could do a square from the bottom to top. Make it about half way for a towel, don't bind off. Make another one the same size then use a Kitchener Stitch (graft) them together.
Kitchener Stitch
vernzap

Love the music notes!!! I am very new to knitting, but now I am wishing I had started with dishcloths instead of a scarf. Maybe I need a new wip...
Kahud48

LOL, that is always the case Veronica, you have to always have at least
one new wip going
TX CrochetLover

IMO, the washcloths are faster and you get to see the picture pretty soon.  So, it gives you incentive to get it finished.  I am working on a grape designed one now.
Mom w/a Motif

I was thinking about that if my son didn't like his guitar *dishcloth*; maybe I could make a bunch of different *dischcloths* (squares) and sew them into an afghan.  Or a pillow.

Gorgeous dishcloths!  I just love the color of the music notes cloth.
TX CrochetLover

That music note one went pretty fast in my opinion. The bright colors tend to show the picture more.
