Stitch MarkersFor real, for real do YOU use 'em?
I keep eye-ballin' 'em over at e-Bay. The lil buggers are not inexpensive, are they?

Well, to be honest with you, I've never purchased a stitch marker. I've been fortunate enough to receive some in swaps etc. There are some very talented women on this board who make them!!
I don't use them all the time but when I'm making things in the round, I'm tellin' ya, I'd loose my spot without them. I also use them if I'm in the middle of something and have to put it up for a bit. Hooks never seem to stay in place and I loose stitches...the stitch markers work great for that!!

Until I started knitting, I had no idea what stitch markers were.
I was horrible with crochet squares that started with ring, and refused to crochet anything that didn't start with a chain. Until I started knitting.
Believe it or not, kntting helped me figure out what I was doing wrong. Once I started using stitch markers, my squares actually started looking like squares!
I use the plastic safety pins the most, but I do use the unlockable plastic rings too for crochet.
I tend to lose more than I use, which can make them a costly notion after awhile.

I've been given some in swaps and I've made my own too.
I used to use a safety pin or a piece of yarn before I had some.
There are some really nice ones on Etsy too.

Yep I use them all the time..
Most of the time I make my own and received some pretty ones in swaps.
Anytime I set my crocheting down I take the hook out and use one on the loop.. My sofa always eats my crochet hooks if I don't..

I used a large paper clip before I knew I had some stitch markers in a knitting kit I had. Even so I prefer the large paper clips because they are easier to use than the little half spiral markers that came in the kit.
I'll probably try some other types of markers, but if all else fails I have my paper clips

I was the same way Chuck. I use to use the good ole bobbie pins,
until I got my first stitch marker from a RAOK.
I got it out to try when I had my next crochet project that one was called for. I never knew just how much easier it was to use one of those things (over the bobbie pin), now I won't use anything else.
But I have to admit, I still keep a bobbie pin or two on hand...
you never know when one might still come in handy. One can never have enough stitch markers,
including make shift ones

I have used the round open ones to mark a round that isn't joined couldn't have done it without one.

I make stitch markers out of earring findings and charms. They are easy and when HL runs sales on that stuff, you can everything to make them half off. I use them especially when working in thread and when working in rounds.

I have a feeling if:
a) I could SEE one in use; and
b) I simply go ahead and try
that I'll be hooked too.

They are great for patterns where you are doing continuous rounds.
Now that I have gotten use to using them I wouldn't think of doing
patterns that call for markers without them anymore.
my bobby pin has gotten very lonesome poor bobby pin

I've used all kinds of things for stitch markers. I do a lot of Amigurumi and I need them to keep track of the rows as they are continuous rounds. I also use them to mark every 5 rows if I am working on something that has a lot of rows. I don't usually get to crochet for long period at a time, so this helps me to not have to recount the rows each time.
The ones I use now, I made from some beads and earring findings that were in my stash. love2teach

I can't work on anything without them. I use them for amigurumi, baby clothes, hats, fingerless gloves (that reminds me i need to make another pair for my DD), purses/bags... so everything. They are great. But some people like them to be identifying like a "letter" bead for hook size and an "number" bead for the row. I have seen safety pins with that type of design. I like just beads, simple clean. Like these...

I just noticed that this post is from Dec. 2007. Did you ever find any stitch markers that you liked?
