Swiffer Cloth Pattern

Ok...now that we have moved and have a different flooring in our kitchen, my swiffer mop does not do a very good job of cleaning it. I think I need a heavy cotton mop. However, before I go spend the $$$ on the one I like I got the idea from this pattern to make my own reusable cotton swiffer pad. I did not use that specific pattern because there are way too many sc's that will take me forever. (Can you say major hand cramps??? LOL) Sooo....I revised it and even made it ribbed to help with the scrubbing.

So now to my question. How is this thing supposed to stay on my swiffer mop? There is no mention of adding velcro to this pattern, is it just supposed to stick to the cotton? Cuz mine doesn't. I suppose I could just add some velcro that I have but I wanted to make this quick and easy and no sew. Any ideas??? Have any of you made this work without velcro?

Well you could use the velcro with the sticky back, that might work, or use fabric glue to glue it to the pad?
If you didn't mind a little tacking here and there get two strips of thin elastic and tack them to each side to keep it on.

Or maybe a piece or yarn or ribbon woven through the top and pulled tight and tied?

Let us know what you do decide and how it works, I have been wondering about those.

That was my idea, too. Please let us know how well your cloth works. I'm very curious... and interested in saving money!

Thanks you two!

Ok...I was seriously considering doing the ribbon/yarn thing but as I was crocheting it BUT I came up with an alternative plan! No velcro, no ribbons, no elastic. (After I posted, I had seriously considered elastic too.) I don't think sticky velcro will last on it too long since these will need to be washed to be reused.

I'm going to make up another one today and see if my directions are at least half way decent and then I'll be up for someone to test it out for me.

There might be a design flaw in the one I made but after I washed and dried the thing it worked fine. I'm going to use a different cotton yarn this time to see how much shrinkage there is to see if it will work.

OK Gina how did this turn out/??

Here's a link to a blog post where someone made one using a knit pattern. She gives good pictures. Wonder if ravelry has some ideas on it too.

Here is the actual pattern. She also links to a crocheted version as well. Maybe it would work better than the pattern you used? IDK.

Peggy...I think I have a winner! At first there was a design flaw where the sprayer was blocked but after I washed and dried it (I knew it would shrink) it worked! I don't know if I wrote down the info!!! ACK! I'll have to see...cause I did want to share it. I took a pic but I haven't had a chance to take the pics off my camera yet.

Trish...thanks for those links! Doing something like that was going to be my next step but I have one that you don't have to sew (I HATE to sew and tuck tails when I crochet) and it stays on! :D

I think I have a really old swiffer mop as mine looks a lot different from the ones I've seen online. LOL

does this really work.. Just curious! I saw the pattern and wondered..
