Thread CAL In Progress

Hi All,

I posted a while back about Hass Designs and maybe doing a CAL. However, after some feedback I have received, the charts put some people off. But, that doesn't mean we can't do another project! This CAL would be for people that have used thread before and want to do a project together.
I will take any ideas and will submit some on my own, til we get a consensus!
We would start this CAL right about the first of September, and run it until we are all done!
If you'd like to join in, please respond and we'll get to brainstorming!
DogwoodKari

I'd be game as long as there is no deadline per say as i have to get cracking on snowflakes and angels and a doily for christmas.

Here is the one that I've been wanting to make: the Double Pineapple Doily. I want to make it in size 10 or 20 thread (not 30 as listed), so it will be fairly large.

Some other ones I like are:
Trish
Wish Upon a Star
Fan Doilies (directions for a large and small doily)
Mom's Crystal Star
Pineapple Print Doily

I'm looking forward to this CAL. I think it will be a lot of fun.
jchllm

I really want to try a doily of some kind........or even a suncatcher or something like that. I will however, no matter what the pattern calls for, be using size 10 thread....right now I can't imagine going smaller!!
TX CrochetLover

Veronica, I had just highlited the Trish one to post here! How funny! I like that too. How about it, folks? Would that one work?
PhoenixTears62

Count me in. I love the Trish one too. Very pretty:)
Princsstrish

I have to admit, I thought of you as soon as I saw the name! LOL!

Is everyone agreeable on the Trish pattern?

awwww, i'm flattered!!! :) Of course, we all know it is in honor of miss trish herself, patricia K, the queen of doilies! :)
vernzap

I'm in!
Hounddog

Count me in too.

Ok, consensus says the Trish pattern. I think we will start this Sept 4. That way everyone will be done with the holiday and my kids will be back in school! YAY! Oops, did I say that?! LOL!
I will be finished with my table runner and I will be able to work on the doily and some swap items. So it's a go!
TX CrochetLover

Hi All, Just a reminder that we will start this CAL next Tuesday. You will need the following supplies:

Size 10 thread- approximately 155 yards
Steel size 7 hook
needle for weaving ends

I was taking a closer look at the Trish pattern and I really like the way the designer gives you the stitch count after each round. That sure makes it easier if you goof and have to go back to find your mistake! LOL!

So, if anyone else would like to do this CAL, you are most welcome to join in on the fun!
TX CrochetLover

Just a reminder, the CAL starts on Tuesday! I am excited about this pattern and I think it will be fun and different!
TX CrochetLover

Today is the first day of the CAL!! I am working on the Beginner CAL coaster, but after lunch I am going to start on the "Trish" pattern.

I hope everyone enjoys this pattern. If you find mistakes in the pattern instructions, please post so we can all be aware!

I will be excited to see the finished doilies as we get them complete!

Remember, no time frame is involved here, no deadline or anything! Just a pretty pattern for all of us to make! Enjoy the CAL!
vernzap

I won't be able to start right now, but I can't wait to get going on this later this week!
TX CrochetLover

Well, I made it up to round 5 today. The pattern so far is easy to follow. However, stitch markers have been essential for me on this pattern because the single crochet is hard to see when I come back to the beginning stitch.
I am doing mine in ecru.
Hounddog

I have started mine too and in ecru or linen whatever the name is. I think I stopped at round 3 but will am anxious to get going again.
TX CrochetLover

I didn't work on this yesterday, I was trying to line a purse! My hand sewing skills are not the best, so I really went slow and tried to get the stiches to be even.

I chose ecru cause I thought it would show the stitches up really well. Plus, I have a table to put it on when I am done.
Hounddog

Sorry to say but I frogged the doily round 9 was just not happening. I couldn't even see where I was supposed to put the 2trcl's. So now I am going to start something else good luck girls.
TX CrochetLover

Darlene, were the instructions unclear? Cause if they are I sure want to be prepared before I get there! Sorry to say, I am still at the same place I was at the other day!
Has anyone else started the doily?
Hounddog

Round 9 is clear about what to do but the stitches in the flat part of the middle are so small I couldn't distinguish even what row they were. Good luck with yours. I have gone on to something else another filet project.
TX CrochetLover

Oh, man, I hope I will be able to see them. I know you are really good at thread, so this kinda scares me! LOL!
TX CrochetLover

Well, I got past round 9. The way I overcame the tiny thead issue was to put stitch markers on all the places when I did the round with sc in back loops. I had to hunt for ALL my markers. It looked like a piece of jewelry! LOL!
I will work on it some today.
vernzap

I only have a few stitch markers, so I might go out and buy more before I get to round nine!
TX CrochetLover

I am working on it this morning. I lost count while talking to Son#1, so I am frogging. But just a few stitches at the beginning of a round of chain 3's and sc. I am upstairs so I don't know what round I am on. The piece is on the couch downstairs!
TX CrochetLover

I have been bad, I haven't worked on the doily in a few days. But, I am still trying to get it in my crocheting schedule! Since we are not on a time frame, I have slacked off!
Princsstrish

I am working on this doily. I am on round 8 so far. Mine is really bulgy though and I don't like that. I know it will flatten out when I get further along with it. I am doing mine in a bright pink! :)
TX CrochetLover

Oh, the pink sounds pretty!
vernzap

Pink does sound pretty. I'm thinking of making one in a colored thread instead of the neutral that I always use.
Princsstrish

I prefer colored threads. I have to correct my color, it's a varigated bright pink :) Looks really pretty so far!!
TX CrochetLover

Well, I still have not completed the doily. I am at round 21. Here's a WIP pic.

How's everyone else doing?
Hounddog

Your doily is so pretty TX Crochetlover I may try it again sometime.
Princsstrish

I'm still where I was last time I posted. I just have too much going on and too many WIP's at the moment! Trying to finish up the oldest first so that puts this one on the backburner.

Selena, yours is gorgeous!!!
TX CrochetLover

LOL! I don't know when I will get back at this, it's in my bag by the couch! So far, the pattern is pretty straight forward. Thanks for the kind words.
TX CrochetLover

I finally finished this doily and got it blocked.  Here's a couple of pics.

The closeup ain't too grand cause of my pic taking skills but I think you can get the general idea! LOL!
JazzRizz

Wow, that is beautiful Selena.

This makes me wish I enjoyed working with thread more than I actually do.
Miss Kitty

Beautiful!!!
I can do Laceweight yarn now, Next THREAD!!!
TX CrochetLover

Thread is fun once you practice using the smaller hooks!  Thanks for looking and giving me a thumbs up!
