Trying to work my way back

Sorry I've been absent for a bit guys, and have had to have my daughter do the bingo words.
Friday I was starting to feel a lot better until about 4 in the afternoon. I woke up in the morning and told my dh that I literally felt like someone came in while I was sleeping and beat me with a sledge hammer.

Every bone in my body, especially every joint in my body hurt beyond belief. My wrists, elbows, knees and ankles.....OMG...I just can't tell you.

Then I break out in what look like hives but then it turns into what looks like and feels like a sunburn. My hands and feet both swelled...my hands so much that I had to take off my rings.

And the fever!! I could not keep it below 101. No matter what I did. I even took a cool shower and that didn't work.

Today, the fever is gone, thank GOD. The rash/hives/sunburn is gone. My hands and feet are still swollen but not as bad. My 'hurts' are going away too.

I really hope I'll be feeling better tomorrow. I have orders that I have to do and I'll start falling behind if I don't start very soon.

So, if you could, if you read this, say a little prayer for me too. I don't like to ask but......man, I need all the help I can possibly get!!

I love you guys
Hounddog

It sounds like you have a bad flu what with the aches and fever . Sorry you have so sick.
LadySnow

Oh...I am so sorry you had to go through that. I am glad it's going away though. ((((HUGS))))
Miss Kitty

Glad you are feeling a little better.
Praying that you wake up tomorrow morning feeling great...

Hope you continue to feel better! You are in my prayers.

What did the rash look like? I'm not a doctor, but maybe it was scarlet fever? Our oldest had that a few years ago. He had a red prickly rash all over his chest and torso.. (It did look kinda like sunburn.) I took him to the doctor, it was scarlet fever. I swear the teachers kept a vial of the strep bacteria in their desks. Every single year at that school, my kids got strep within two weeks of school starting. Several times a year, one year. (Strep throat and scarlet fever are the same strepdococcus (sp?), but manifest themselves in different ways sometimes... that is what I was told by the doctor. With strep, it is your throat that hurts. My sons' throat didn't really hurt with scarlet fever... same infection, different manifestation...) Is strep going around your kids school?

Whatever it is, I hope you start feeling better soon!

Thanks everyone for the nice thoughts.
I woke up this morning feeling marginally better. DH is convinced that if I eat something other than chicken noodle soup and toast I'll start to feel better. That's all I've eaten for the last 3 days. He keeps telling me that he's going to bring me home cheeseburger. Don't know if I can get something like that down right now.

Every year when 'stuff' breaks out at school it seems I get worse than anyone else. The kids bring it home it seems to manifest itself into a superbug by the time it hits me, I just don't get it. I don't know what I can do differently to stop this from happening.

Anyway, thank again to everyone. At least it makes me smile, which hasn't happened much this past week.

(((hugs)))

My son did just what you have discribed.
He went down hill fast though and was in the hospital.
His marrow was failing to do what is is suppose to do (can't remember what they called it) they first thought he had aids
His body organs began to fail (he was in there for 36 hours with IV antibiotic drip).

Our doctor called in a specialist in environmental and biological
(and 3 other degrees with his name) and ask him to take a look at my son.

He ask these questions, best I can remember:
1. Have you had congestion... no
2. have you had sore acky joints....yes
3. have you had a rash....yes
4. how long have you had a fever....was it spiked high at times..off and on,
and it spiked up and down often we had even started going from Ibuphrophen to tylenol, back and forth.
5. have you felt like your skin was sunburnt....YES!!

Then his very next question was the kicker ............

6. have you had a TICK BITE....YES
7. and how long ago did that happen... 3 weeks prior

Johnathon and I looked at each other like the light had turned on in each one of us. He had been bit by a tick 3 weeks before this started.
He started off with what the doctors treated like it was the flu.......
but, he was at the point where he should have been doing better, but he wasn't, he getting worse, much worse.

He said he was burning on his shoulders and his back and couldn't sit or lay down anymore.......this all happened in just a few hours that morning (when I took him to the hospital) so I said no more waiting, he was going to the hospital NOW!

That doctor (the specialist that they brought in to look at him after he had been in the hospital for two days, and he was getting worse)
told him that he had what is known as Erlickia.............and the antibiotics he was being given would not work, in fact they were a waste of time.

He was going to pull the IV and start him on an antibiotic that would kill
this along with anyother little tick nasty deseases that these creatures tend to carry.

And he was going to send off a blood sample for the test, but, he would begin to respond possitive to the antibiotic long before the results were back...............
HE DID in just 6 hours on the new antibiotic, his white blood cell count began to rise (it had fell as low as 6, and that was very bad)

This desease that one can get from ticks is the cousin to rocky mountain spotted fever. It was a touch and go with my son there for a few hours, but we thank God everyday that this awesome specialist was here in our city at the time.

He went on to say that these tick deseases tend to be misdiognosed as so many other things and that you have to look especially for them to know if that is what one has.

Lisa, with how you have been feeling this past summer with these ups and downs of sickness, if I was you I would check it out..........if you remember being tick bit............it could explain everything on what has been making you feel so bad off and on this past summer.

Yes hun, you are most surely gonna be in my prayers

To my knowledge I've never been bit by a tick. We do live in the 'boonies' though. We did find a tick on one of our dogs a couple months ago.

It's something to think about.

My 'sunburn' wasn't as harsh as your son's sounds. I was worst on my forearms and it only lasted a day. Thankfully it's gone now.

But certainly something to think about.
Kahud48

Yeah, his was just that morning...........it was the strangest part of all of it.

He had had a bad cold, or flu,
but the congestion was over and he wasn't improving.

But that sunburnt feeling and not feeling any better was the kicker for me.
My Dr. (our everyday general med doc) said not to worry, he was just getting over it and he would be OK.

Bull hockey, I went on with him to the hospital anyway.
My gut told me better, he was getting worse, not better.
Kahud48

He and his brother and Dad had mowed a yard for an elderly lady.
It was full of woods ticks (as we call them around here, deer ticks and such)

Each one of them got a tick on them....................
and their Dad started to do the same thing, but with Johnathon already being diagnosed, they went right on and treated their Dad for the same thing.

You can have the little bitty ones to get on you and they just itch.
You can scratch it off and never know you had one.
They are seed ticks and we were told that is just the baby tick

OH YEAH, one more thing..............
Another symptom was, they would get hungry like normal and when they went to put a bite of food in their mouth, they just couldn't go it.
They couldn't eat anything.
They felt no need to eat......that was weird too, and was another thing that made me know this was not your normal cold/flu whatever.
They were hungry, but couldn't est.....it wasn't that they got sick when they did, they just somehow lost their appetite to eat, even being hungry.
It was soooo weird.
Hounddog

Thank God your son had the help from you and the specialist Kathy my friends brother had Lyme's disease and that is bad too. He lives in Arizona and works on a golf course and they think that is where he was bitten by the mosquito.
Kahud48

Thanks hounddog, God does work wonders at times when you can't even see it.
Their Dad said he probably would have died if it weren't for Johnathon
having it first and the Doctors knew what it was right up front when he came down with the same symptoms.

Prayers for Lisa that it is not anything like these three got,
I just wanted her to know to look for this (a tick) just in case
this weird not feel goods keep happening to her
DogwoodKari

*hugs* You'll be in my prayers.
PhoenixTears62

Praying you are doing better sweetie:)
JazzRizz

Glad you're feeling a little better Lisa. Sounds like you had a super nasty bug! Maybe a flu shot would help?

I'll be keeping you in my prayers for a speedy recovery!

That is so terrible that you have been so sick! You can't stop the little plague carriers from bringing it home! LOL! I am hoping you are feeling better. Thinking of you!
