Well, I am not crocheting anything, I am so burned out on crochet,
and I never thought I would ever say such as this.
I finished all that I had on the hook except for one of the baby ghans.
I am not going to be crocheting anything for a looooong time now, I quit!
I didn't even do anything different at my Etsy shop this year, it is just running on
old stuff. Yes, I am literally tired of crocheting.
I have always wanted to learn to knit and just kept putting it off, but not anymore,
I started on this yeasterday:

I figure there is no time like the present to learn. So far so good.
I have just finished the first 83 rows and am starting on the next step

Totally understand. That's kind of why I move from crochet to knit to cross-stitch...and then to reading a book.
WIP:
-Still crocheting that star afghan. Picking it up almost gives me hives now.
-Knitting an afghan for stepson who is living with us now
-Working on that cross-stitch letter that I put away months and months ago. It's Captain Wentworth's letter to Ann from "Persuasion". I'm doing illuminated letters for the beginning of each sentence.
That's about all I have time for at the moment. Kind of tuckered out.

Still working on socks! Kathy, if you are just learning to knit, that looks to be a beautiful starting project! Don't know if I could do that with my limited knit skills I have learned lately! LOL!

It is pretty for sure. My tention is OK and I figure if I start on something
a little hard like this, it will help me to master better.
I have put it aside to practise on a scarf with the same sts in it pretty much. Today I have been trying the continetal knit just to see if it works better for me since I here that a lot of crocheters use that method the most. Not sure I feel as comfortable with it though but I hear if you can knit this way then you will be faster at it.
When I learned to crochet the first thing I did was just a simple sc all
the way afghan.
Then my second piece was a sc ripple for my Mom (covers the top of my king size bed).
My third piece was this one on the right:
It took me three days to figure out the cable. This is my all time fav crochet afghan.

I tried the continental knitting but my tension wasn't to great.
Knitting wasn't to bad but the switching from knitting and purling, not good at all. not good.

I can K and P and it looks so good, but it's the rest that just frustrates me.
I can't tell what a stitch looks like when I have to go back in the rows.
I wish it was as easy to count the rows back as it is in crochet.
Grrrrr, I don't know if I can do this, I have ripped this thing (doing a scarf first)
out more times than I can remember now that my yarn is showing the wear and tear already, LOL!

I learned the English method of knit and purl. I am still in what I call the practice, frog, practice, frog stage! Of course I am still on my socks, haven't made as fast as progress lately, been pretty busy.

Me too, I am still in the frog, knit, frog, knit stage.
I am having more trouble with knowing what a stitch looks like when there are Yo's in the pattern. I even thought that using a cheaters
yarn would help me, but it didn't. I pull back down to that row if I mess up, but I have no clue on what row it is.
Is there a trick knitters to knowing which row is which? What do I look for in a row to know so I can count my rows when done?
I call myself keeping count but it still eludes me as to just what the rows are suppose to look like on the end.

I have been using online tutorials, so Maybe LadyH or Miss Kitty can train us on some of this stuff. Maybe after Christmas a little tutorial here at the Mania? Hmm?

I'll help if I can..Our we can always find and answer..
Kathy, I know you have been having trouble with the row count. But every pattern or stitch looks different per row so there is no set rule.
If you knit one row and purl one row [stockintte stitch]you get VVVVVV one one side and loops one the other. Each row of VVVVV is 1row.
Just remember to knit it's ~ In through the front door,
run around the back,
Out through the window,
off jumps Jack!

Great, when I get done with socks, I am going to work on the knitting, and I already have tons of questions. I'll post in the appropriate place when I get ready to work! Thanks for the offer to help Miss Kitty!
