Yarn review: Lion Brand Jiffy

Hancock's had a sale on this recently and I needed enough for two lap robes.

Label info:  Made in Turkey
3 ounces
135 yards
Crochet hook size K  (Yes, I agree.  It works well.)
Knitting needles 10 (6 mm)
Size category: 5 bulky

I don't remember the price, but it was noticeably higher than it was four or five years ago, when I had last bought Jiffy.  The new batch is not as soft as the older and feels different working with it.  It works up quickly.  I use a very open stitch so that I can get more coverage out of less yarn, and have a lighter weight throw.  The lap robes I make are for those who can't bear heavy things on them, and this yarn fills this function very well.

I wash things by hand in organic, liquid, castile soap.  Squeeze dry, then roll in a towel.  It takes two or three towel rollings, and then I lay it on a drying rack.  It keeps its shape this way and doesn't pill.  The ladies I've given them to say that they have held up nicely.

I've seen Jiffy yarn at Michaels, and JoAnns as well as Hancocks.  It has a bit of fluff, but is still a smooth yarn, which makes it easy to work with, and is a good yarn for beginners.

Here's the link to the Jiffy page at Lion, if you're interested:

The retail price listed at the site is $3.19 per skein.  It comes in 46 colors.  Wouldn't that be nice to see at a local shop?

Thanks Serena.  I have not used this yarn yet.  I think it will probably go on sale as the fall comes closer.

I think I've seen it on sale in November.  I was surprised to find it at 40% last month, so got what I needed for Christmas presents.
