I know what sized hook makes what sized hat but the last few skeins I have bought it making the hats bigger and I know I have not changed the way I am doing thing.s I am wondering if the yarn is thicker.

Not that I've noticed.
I just bought a skein of red to add on a few row and it was the same.
But then again maybe it was an old one.
