Easy Shawl Pattern for Knit Along

The shawl is triangular. It is very easy and perfect for the Beginning Knitter:

Yarn of your choice
Circular Needles
The larger the needles the lacier the shawl will be

I used Joann's Boucle Yarn with 36"circular size 13 needles

cast on three stitches
row 1 - knit to end of row, turn
row 2 - k2, yo knit to end of row, turn
row 3 -knit each stitch including yo to end of row, turn

repeat row 2 and 3 until the shawl is desired size

Simple and Pretty

Really similar to one I'm doing with The Boucle From The Netherworlds (not sure if I can cuss here so I re-named it, heh).

1st row:CO 4, K across

2nd row: Slip 1st stitch (in each row but I'm a selvedge freak, this isn't necessary unless you're a selvedge freak too), K across to last stitch, knit front & back in last stitch.

3rd row: Repeat 'til right size (or you go nuts and decide that this size is just fine for a teddy bear or small child) and then cast off.

Or...

1st row:CO4, K across

2nd row: K2, YO, K across

Rest of rows: repeat row 2 until done (or insane).

Oh, a nice chain-selvedge is done by slipping first stitch on a row as if to purl and then moving yarn back behind work before working second stitch. Gives a very nice chained edge.

It certainly is almost the same . . . . . the edge will have a hole every other row and give a lacey look.

Nice tip about the chained edge!!

Yupper, basically a giant half of a very old dishcloth pattern. One of the few knitterly things I can do without having to focus mightily and I've adapted it to an in-progess afghan (squares, too many) and a wee baby afghan.

Yes, I have too many WIPs. Waaaay too many.

It will look stunning in the Boucle. I have made 5 of these each in a different color and they have character and so feminine. My mom loves the one that I made her.

The next one I do, I will leave out the yo every other row as you have and see how it turns out with the holes along the edging.

One of us is confused (likely me, I'm somewhat easily confused...heh). I YO every row (k2, yo, k across) which gives me a solid 2 stitch edge (well that first stitch is slipped because of that selvedge freaky thingie of mine) and this with a wee space and then the body. Wait one, I'll get a pic of the edge off one of my towels...

Okay, see where the skinny bit is (fold-over strap part) at the bottom? Follow along the right edge (more visible there) where it curves and that's what you'll get.

If that's what you meant, sorry! It's past my bedtime.

Our yo edging is the same, except that I am doing it every other row, makes it more lacey when using larger needles.

Your edging is nice and more uniform.

Beautiful yarn!!

I never thought to do that! I shall give it a go because that sounds like an interesting edging (and I'm all about edging).

Thanks!

It really is that bright too. Heh. Plain "kitchen" cotton (meaning the kind that is good for dishclothes, potholders, towels etc.) comes and goes here and if I don't manage to be around when a new shipment comes in the pickings are slim.

TTS (10 Toed Sloth aka my husband) has a fit when a new shipment has come in and I start hurling balls into the cart. He usually needs to hare off to the computer aisle to recover which is all to the good because I don't have to hear the whinging as each chosen ball hits the cart.

If you want some, let me know!

You ladies are brave I do not take my husband with me at all. He would just stand there make remarks and roll his eyes . . . . so I would have to rush and then all the way home he would ask, what are you going to do with all the yarn that you all ready have?

So, I quietly sneak off for my acquistition trips.

Alas, I pretty much have to take him along. I am nearly deaf and whilst I can make myself understood in German, I am utterly lost if someone speaks it to me. I do so miss the days when I could do the commando runs for yarns!

I've been reading this thread with a lot of interest. I'm a brand new
beginning knitter (still doing dishcloths), and this sounds like a good
dishcloth pattern to me!

Hexe, I do have a question about your directions here:

"...K across to last stitch, knit front & back in last stitch...."

I don't understand the knit front and back part. Do you know if there is a
web site that illustrates this stitch so I can actually see it? I looked in my
handly little Knitting Answer Book but I couldn't find it there.

I already knew about the selvedge part at the beginning but it's just this
last stitch part that I'm not sure of. Thanks for any help!
