Just a bump on this thread, so to speak! Just a reminder the CAL starts Tuesday. I made a version of this already in cotton to see if there were any errors on the pattern. I found a confusing section that wasn't written exactly how you would actually work it, so I will post that info on Tuesday!

It's not too late if you want to join this CAL! The pattern is pretty and you go at your own pace! No pressure to complete in a given time frame, just lots of support and fun!

I'm glad you'll be clarifying any confusing instructions since this is my very first foray into lace crochet.......I'm looking forward to it, knowing that you're right here if and when I run into any problems.

Thanks, Laura

Yes, dear, I do believe you did! I am excited because I think the pattern is going to be unique enough that it won't just be a circle, and yet stitch wise simple enough so that you can concentrate on the thread part of it.

Laura, there is plenty of help around here, so if there is a question, do not hesitate to ask!

Come on folks, this is a perfect opportunity to try something NEW!!

Hey all,

Today begins our beginner's thread CAL! I have already started this. I wanted to make sure there were no boo boos in the pattern.

I did have an issue with Round 5. I thought it was confusing. So below find a clarification.

Rnd 5: ch1, sc in same st, skip next 3 sc,(3dc, ch1, 3dc) in next sc. [skip next 3 sc(3dc, ch1, 3dc ) in next sc, skip next 3 sc, sc in next sc] around. 9 shells

I was confused and I ended up with 18 shells! So, I had to go back and figure out what went wrong! LOL!
Anyhoo, I made the first version in cotton yarn, modified it a little and made a dishcloth out of it. Today I am working it in thread, Using a light green.

How about everyone else? Have you been able to start on the coaster yet?
If you have any questions or advice, post here and we'll finish the coaster in no time! And pics would be really great!

Okay, here's a picture through Rnd 2 and beginning of rnd 3......I'm not sure if what I'm doing is correct or not.

At the end of rnd 2 it says (18dc, ch1) and then rnd 3 states ch7 (counts as dtr and 3 ch) so, should I have 8 chains at this point?

What is the dtr? Is it simply ch 7, and if so, would I then be chaining 3 more for a total of ten? In order to do this in each dc around, I would have to slip st into the dc before beginning the dtr's, is this correct and just to clarify, the dtr's are simply chain 7?

Thanks for your help here and by the way, I thought I had size 10 thread but I only have size 20 and size 3, so I'm using the 3 with a size 0 hook....do you think that will work out? Should I try the size 20 instead and if so which size hook would you recommend? Thanks again!

Cheers, Laura

At the end of rnd2 after you chain one, you will then slip stitch into the beginning stitch of the round to close the gap. Then you will chain 7 for the beginning of rnd 3.

What is the dtr? Is it simply ch 7, and if so, would I then be chaining 3 more for a total of ten? In order to do this in each dc around, I would have to slip st into the dc before beginning the dtr's, is this correct and just to clarify, the dtr's are simply chain 7?

To do a dtr, you yarn over 3 times and pull thru 2 loops 4 times. The chain 7 at the beginning is just to simulate the dtr. When you end that round you will slip stitch in the 4th chain of the beginning chain 7 of the round.

The size 3 and an 0 hook should look fine, just will be a little bigger coaster. If you try a 20, I would use either a 9 or 10. Some would say to use like a 12 hook, but I can't see the head too well on those!

Cheers, Laura

The pic of round one and two look good!

I finished one coaster, will take a pic. I am going to make 4 of them for a set. But, I don't know whether I should make them all the same color or do a rainbow set. Hmm....

Laura, did my suggestions help?

Progress from anybody else?

I am doing the second one in my set a pale pink. I decided on the rainbow set.

How's everyone else doing?

I have not finished my pink one yet. I have been doing squares for the Traveling Hook II at the ville. Also, I joined the Mania Halloween swap and worked on that this weekend.
So, how's everyone else doing?

I haven't forgotten about this CAL but life has been ultra busy around here these last few weeks.

Your suggestions did help and I believe I'm on round 6 or seven now but I haven't picked it up in about 10 days or so and I'm not sure. I do intend to finish it though so I may need your help once again somewhere along the road.

I finally took a pic of the first coaster I made.

How is everyone else doing on the coasters? Any troubles? Any comments about the pattern?
