I have just started on this beautiful shawl and wondered if anyone
would like to crochet one of them along with me?

PDF pattern:
http://www.bernat.com/data/patter...rnat_Masala400_cr_shawl.en_US.pdf

I know I am not using the yarn called for, but I think this one will turn out
nice for a little girl    I am using a basic 4ply yarn, color Aqua and a J-Hook...
also crocheting loosely

Great lady's, now we are three

I have about 7 rows so far and will try and get a pic posted
tomorrow. It crochets up so quickly, I like this one a lot so far.

I will have some errands to run and a couple of major chores
to take care of today so I may not get to crochet on the shawl
till tomorrow probably

Kathy I am having a fit with this one.  It's too hard for me I think and not working out.  I may have to do the sock one instead.  It's really pretty though.

Yvonne and I did too right at first.

We learned that when you are crocheting the alt row decreases that they are actually making the top of the shawl. You are crocheting it sidways.
Everyother row is even and everyother row is decrease.

And also, at the end of the decrease row, you go over one more
at the end and make your last st in the ch group
(part of that ch group counts as 1 dc).

Link here and scroll down about half way and see if that helps

Here you go Phoenix, maybe this can help, it's really easy once you get
it in your mind that the last dc on the ends are in the ch groups.

PICS.....
click on pics to enlarge...then click in right hand corner
on the little icon to enlarge bigger.....

Right side with no decrease,
this side will eventually end up at the top right corner of the shawl:

Alternate row decreases,
this side is what makes the neck of the shawl:

Here is a view of the neck side (alt row decrease) set at a horizontal view:

__________________________________________________

Here is end of row 2...
pic #2
Do a ch 2, dc in the top of the chain group on the end (top of the dc ch 3)
not in the sc side point of the diamond but in the ch just next to that.
clickable:

Turn now and work row three...

At the end of row three will be the first decrease

Next, do a tr in the top of the chain group just above the diamond, left of the
diamond point (top of the dc ch 3) not in the sc point of diamond,
but in the ch just next to that.

Turn and work back accross, repeating row's 2 and 3

YW, you can call me if you want, sometimes it helps to walk thru
a pattern that way better than typing it out.

Here is mine so far:

Clickable pics

It probably won't turn out adult size, but will make a very pretty shawl
for a young teen

TY
I am using worsted 4ply and a J-hook.
The pattern calls for a bulkier yarn and an L-hook.

That's why I said it would be just the right size for a young teen
say around 12 or 13

I wonder if we do two strands and the L-hook if we would get the
gauge more to the actual pattern size

I always do up one first in a simple worsted just to see if I like it,
and if I do, I then do up one in the called for yarns

I was gonna do mine like that with two strands. I need a shawl that will fit an adult. So well see how it works.
