Hi all!  I was thinking about this the other day.  Would anyone be interested in us working together for a charity for the fall and winter?  We did this a couple of years ago for a group Kathy was working with.
I have been trying to work on helmet liners for a group here in Texas for the troops. My knitting skills are holding me back a little! LOL! But, there are a lot of worthwhile causes.
If anyone wants to volunteer to join in and commit to helping others as a group, we could make a difference!  I am thinking if a lot of us here contributed crocheted or knitted items to one cause, it would be a way to bring us together in these tough times.

So, if you have some charity for us to look at, want to volunteer, want to moderate, want to help others, please post here!

Great idea girl:)  I know for the helmet liners there is a crochet pattern somewhere that I saw.  Anyway if I can use acrylic yarn count me in.  I have tons and have vowed to use a lot of this before I buy more.  I know the helmet liners have to be wool that is why I haven't joined in on that one.

How about Victory Junction?
http://www.victoryjunction.org/about/index.php

Afghans - Each camper at Victory Junction takes home a hand-made afghan as a souvenir from camp.
The afghans should be knitted or crocheted with bright, cheerful colors! Our camper unit colors are blue, green, yellow and red and are great choices for afghans!
There are no specific design requirements, you can be as creative as you like!
The afghans should be 35-40 inches wide by 45-50 inches long.

I love this idea Miss Kitty!  What a great cause for sure.  Can you imagine how excited they are to get an afagan to take home?

Well, how about the Victory Junction idea?  We can make 12" squares and then assemble to a 36x48 inch size, or make whole ones.  I like the idea of squares.  More people can contribute and we can use acrylic.  I have some bright acrylic yarns.

If we do squares, it won't be time consuming, but will make some kiddos a great keepsake of their camp trip!

I just got to thinking, would 8 inch squares be better?  5 across and 6 down would be 40x48.  They may be a little sturdier for the kiddos.  Plus we could make variations of Krochet Krystal's square for girls.  Plus I have seen teddy bear sqaures in filet that are 8" and those could be interspersed with solid squares.  What do ya'll think?

For starters I would be thinking for this fall and winter making the squares and getting them assembled.  It looks like the bulk of the camps are in the summer, so this would give us time to make a bunch.

That was just a suggestion---
You might want to look at this list of Charities~ http://www.bellaonline.com/subjects/206.asp

You can send in squares at this one~ http://www.warmupamerica.com/home.html
Or do baby things here~  http://tlcforangels.tripod.com/  Or  http://www.newbornsinneed.org/html/about_us.html

I am asking for more volunteers for this board project!  We are all having a tough year, but we can still donate time, and a little acrylic!

Please think about it.  I will give this a couple of more days, then a decision to move forward can be made.
