I saw this, and it's calling (actually it's screaming) to me . . .
DROPS Tunic with Crochet Diamond Pattern
The only problem is . . . yarn substitutions?
I could order the yarn, but I am hoping I can come up with something else that would be close (and closer to home).
Any ideas?? I've never used DROPS yarn before. Here are the specs of the yarn the pattern calls for.
bomull-lin: 53% cotton, 47% linen, 50g = 85m, needle size 4.5mm, knitting tension 20 sts x 26 rows = 10x10cm
cotton viscose: 54% Egyptian Cotton, 46% viscose, 50g = 110m, needle size 2.5-3.5mm, knitting tension 23 sts x 30 rows = 10x10cm

I'm not sure what that means, but it looks like you can substitue really any 100% cotton or 100% alpaca, I'm the worst at subbing yarns, so don't listen to me :) |

The best thing to do is find a yarn with a similar gauge and work a gauge swatch to see if it matches theirs.
Aren't Drops patterns in British terms? Something to keep in mind when working it up.
I love this top......I can't believe I've got to add yet another pattern to my 'to make' list. Will I ever run out of ideas? And will I live long enough to complete them all? |

Yes, it's in british terms, but I fell in love with this pattern. I love wearing this kind of shirt . . . so it makes sense that I'd want to make it. I live in Florida, so I need to use a cotton yarn of some sort, but Peaches & Cream is the only cotton I've used --- and I'm not that fond of it. I'm just about to break down & see if I can't order the yarn for this (even though I'm trying to use my stash up before buying any more yarn).
I have used Cascade Seirra that I enjoyed working with , but I think it's too heavy a yarn to use for this.
I was hoping I could figure out a different yarn to use that would be easier to get than shipping international. . . I was considering Esprit for the body & Lang Yarn Musica for the crochet part from Elann. I haven't used this either, so I'm flying blind.
