To be short and too the point:
we have a couple who are our friends, they live a bout 30 mins to an hour away from us but have become fast friends. The husband, George has a step-mom who has been married to his father since he was young, he considers her his mother, His father, whom is a recovering alcoholic has been sick with COPD for many years. Although they had a very strained relationship for years they have come to grips and have reformed a very good relationship over the past 10 years.
He just called me to let me know his father had been released from the hospital only to be readmitted right away.. it does not look good.
They do not know just how bad it is right now but they do know they are in the ends times of his father's life.
Of course my heart breaks for them.
I just finished a poncho for their niece for pay that they ordered for a christmas present and he just asked if I could make another one by christmas for his mother (step-mom) because she has been so good about taking care of his father.
I agreed but then was telling him about our system of making comfortghans and he thought she would love that because she likes to cover up while sitting of the evenings and watching tv.
Soooo... I send this request, I know it is the busiest time of year for everyone but I need this done by Christmas.
If you can send, any 12 inch squares to me, not bright bright but something cheerful not black I would be forever grateful to have you help our friend help his mother feel better.
email me at dogwooddreams@gmail.com or PM me and I will send you my address, it doesn't have to be a specific yarn just not anything too bright or too dark, if that makes sense.
Thank you and if possible say a few prayers for them all as it's a very very hard time for them.

Thanks to those of you who have sent squares. I still need a few more, am down to the final weeks as they are coming down the 22nd to pick it up.
On a bad note, my friends father has gotten worse. He was awake and coherent enough last week to make a living will asking not to be put on a ventilator. The drs said there is nothing more they can do for him. They give him a couple weeks left to live.
They do not believe he will live to see Christmas.
So the comfortghan for my friends step mom who is the one taking care of his dad is so much more important.
Appreciate your prayers for George, his father, and his step mom. |

Soooo sorry to hear about your friends dad...
I missed the first post, sorry I'm down to the crunch time making and getting ready for Christmas..I wouldn't be able to get squares done in time.
I will add them to the prayer list.. |

Kari, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's dad.
I'm in the same boat Miss Kitty's in. I've way over-extended my rational about of knit/crochet projects for Christmas. There's no way I could get the squares made & sent out in time either.
I'll be keeping your friend's family in my thoughts and prayers. |

Latest update:
Just got off the phone with George. They will probably be letting his Dad out of the hospital tomorrow. He wants to go home to die. They want to make sure there is absolutely nothing else that they can do first though before they go ahead and let him.
Needless to say they are all pretty broken up. |
