I finally finished this jacket. It is from March 2007 Crochet magazine and is called Spring Colors Jacket. I made it in white TLC baby yarn. If I ever did this pattern again, I would make the arm holes at the shoulder a little bigger. And the overall length shorter. But since I have never made something with sleeves, it turned out ok. I am learning a lot by these minor things though.

That's great! It can be somewhat frustrating; these things (armholes, and lengths)... but we learn from them don't we. Great job!

I am determined to learn more about clothing and how to make patterns work for my frame. That is one of my crochet goals for the year. I see some great looking patterns and think, I should be able to do that. But, as I found out on this pattern, it is going to require a lot more. Gauge is not enough to see if it will fit or even look right. Measurements also play a big part in constructing a garment. I thought the pattern sizing was the only thing to go by. Then, as I ended the project, I realized, this is a guideline. You have to think it through to fit you. Keeping with the pattern stitches is important, but I am going to have to learn to adapt where I like looser fit, where I need shaping.
It is a challenge, but I can't give up!
