I don't understand the knit front and back part. Do you know if there is a
web site that illustrates this stitch so I can actually see it? I looked in my
handly little Knitting Answer Book but I couldn't find it there.
I already knew about the selvedge part at the beginning but it's just this
last stitch part that I'm not sure of. Thanks for any help!

I am SO sorry for the delay in responding. Our 'Net access has been completely wonky for a week now. Long story short, I haven't been able to get much of anywhere on the 'Net although, happily, email continued to work. Anyway, let's see here...I will rummage about for a site that shows this procedure. It sounds a lot worse than it is. Heh.
It's also called a "bar increase". Here's a site (a lovely site indeed) which'll give you a video (scroll down a bit) that should be helpful:
http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/increase.php
The video is about half way down the page and it's listed as "bar increase".
Again, apologies for the delay. I am so glad to be able to actually GET somewhere!

Is there a pic of this knitted shawl.. Pattern sounds easy, but I would like to see what it looks like before I start anything! Thank you!

Yarn of your choice
Circular Needles
The larger the needles the lacier the shawl will be
I used Joann's Boucle Yarn with 36"circular size 13 needles
cast on three stitches
row 1 - knit to end of row, turn
row 2 - k2, yo knit to end of row, turn
row 3 -knit each stitch including yo to end of row, turn
repeat row 2 and 3 until the shawl is desired size
