| yes Serena that is what I grew up with & what I always thought of as lace. My Grandmother & mother knit with what we call cotton or thread. My mother made lace table cloths, they both made doilies that were fabulous. Unfortunately I never learned how to do them. But I do have a knit thread doily here that I made and it isn't too bad but I had no way to block it. My mother had a special large screen & copper pins that she blocked with. |

LadyH, how beautiful! I just use a piece of styrofoam, with a piece of cloth on it, and then stick pins through my crochet projects into it. I don't know if that'd work for something very fine.
Your mother and grandmother must have had excellent eyesight, too. Do you have some of their pieces? |

no unfortunately I don't.... my family disowned me years ago because I was such a rotten person (long story) all I have is a beautiful sweater my mother made me.
But I can see in my mind all the beautiful things they made. I have no idea what happened to all of their patterns.... I mean binders full.... my mother could actually knit lace while watching TV hahhaha
knit doilies need to be starched but a bit differently that crochet ones... don't know if the styrofoam would be strong enough to hold the stretch needed.
Give it a try if you can crochet & knit you can do lace worth a try anyway |

I'm having enough trouble with size 10 thread, then using sewing thread..
But they are pretty.
I just block my thing on the spare room bed.. |

LadyH, I'm so sorry about the family.... I'm glad you have such lovely art images to think of.
Miss Kitty, do you stick pins into your spare room bed?
I enjoy looking at the beautiful works of those who are artists with their hooks and needles. And I leave the fancy things to them. |
