Hi all,
I learned of this drive to make helmet liners for Texas soldiers going to war. It is a worthy cause and if you feel the urge to assist, I am sure the organizers would be grateful. But more, the young men and women that serve the USA would be too!
http://www.yarnheaven.com/ Click on helmet liners in the center of the page for patterns.
I am knitting one now. It will be a test to see if I can cast on in the middle of a project. Any 100% soft wool can be used, it does not have to be superwash per the lady at Yarn Heaven.
Maybe a CAL/KAL for the troops? If anyone is interested in doing this with me, please feel free to join in!

There is a group that is doing that for Camp Marby here in Austin.
Casting on in the middle of the row. I do a Cable Cast-on
or the knitted cast-on. |

| Thanks Miss Kitty. The cable cast on is what I did. It is actually looking like the picture a little, I had to envison it because I wasn't sure where to join, etc. But I figured it out. |

| I think I have a crocheted pattern for these too, although I haven't made any yet. It's on my list of to-do things though. |

| They have a crochet version at the Yarn Heaven site. I thought I would try that next. Goodness knows I would be faster at crochet! LOL! |

I finally finished one helmet liner and am working on another. My meetup group had a lady donate yarn for helmet liners, so I am hoping to attend this coming Tuesday's meeting to collect some more yarn. I will have to work FASTER though, they need them by November 1!
