...

I'm being good this year and have got my Christmas projects started.  Don't know exactly how it happened.  I just felt like crocheting, and crocheting some more.  Funny how it is when I start a project, I want to start another one.  That gives me an idea for another one, or to work on a particular UFO.

Anyway....

My sister is getting a table runner:  double-strand #10 thread, blue and yellow, to match her kitchen linens.

My mother, this has changed to potholders.

The mother of a friend, a lap robe in caramel-colored Jiffy.

More to come.

Has the Christmas To-Do list appeared at your house?

I seem to go in cycles.  Some years I'm ahead, and some years I end up baking.

I have my list started. I bought the yarn to start the first project. I have had ideas in my head for over a month.

So far the gift-making and the plans seem on schedule.  It's nice to be learning new things and having new projects.

Got some cotton yarn on clearance today.  A friend just might be getting blue-&-white variegated potholders.

I have given it a little thought already.  I'm planning a market bag and some dishcloths for each of my daughters, a hooded scarf for my mil and one for my mom.  Other than that????

I have half a row on 25 inch doily to finish. I want to make as many of my gifts as possible.

I need to get on this again.  Had a good spurt of working last month.

I've got one small piece, a "table topper" finished.  Just need to weave in the ends, wash, and block.

One lap robe is calling.....

Several potholders.

The rest will be baked goods.

The existentials, as usual, take precedence.

I discovered a couple of years ago that making your gifts is cost effective. I also enjoy this. I never considered baked goods. Thanks for the idea.

Anoramaxsis, necessity prompted.  A few years ago, I started thinking about what people used to give as presents before buying presents was so prevalent.

I asked my parents the kinds of things they would give or receive when they were children.

I make my father special cookies or cupcakes, his favorites.

Often, I just do out-of-the-ordinary chores, as that's what they need the most, in addition to just visiting with them and being sweet to them.

Sometimes, I give someone something that I have, when I know it would mean a lot to them.

I try to fit what I give the person to what I am able live with.  There have been times I have given things that have been very valuable, in terms of $$$ or rarity, or personal meaning, or effort.  That hasn't always been honored.

It's easier, all the way round, to just give something fitting, that is useful to that person, and doesn't symbolize so much.

Very simple baked things: shortbread, cookie bars, sheet cakes, have come in very handy.

Having someone come and do chores or repairs is a wonderful gift, I think.
