Hi everyone, I did not have a good day today!! I spent
the day yesterday with my mom who has Alzheimer's
and it was rainy and grey out again. Soo...bright me
said why not take her downstairs to my nephews
place and watch tv there for a change of pace. Well
we went down the stairs, I was watching her, saw
she made it to the bottom and thought I was on the
last step. Not!!! I missed the last step totally lost
balance my left foot went under me, I banged my
right knee and my elbow. My ankle is swollen three
times its size and I am having a hard time getting
around. All my yarn and stuff is down here with the
computer which is great but the bathroom is forever
away and very difficult to get there. Oh well enough
of the pity party.
On a Good note, I belong to a charity group that
makes newborn and preemie items. We are required
to put our name tags with each item we send. This
past week I received the most beautiful card from a
woman who received one of my blankets. She told me
that her son was born at 7lb. 4 oz. and when they saw
him he was wrapped in the blanket and looked so handsome
He then had respitory distress and had to be taken to the NICU
They were not allowed to touch their baby boy at all but because
he was wrapped in that blanket everytime they saw him they
would touch the blanket and it would make her and her
husband feel close to him!! I never realized how much meaning
these handmade items could mean to people. She asked me
to continue making items for the hospital because she said
that there were so many others there who were just as appreciative.
I was really moved to tears.
Have a great day everyone and Please pray about my ankle healing
quickly. All my yarn and computer exc. are downstairs and the
bathroom feels like it's miles away!!

Joanne, I'm so sorry about your ankle. I'll be praying for it to heal right quick.
That's dear about the preemie blanket. How lovely to get such a card!

| Oh that is so terrible about your fall! To solve the bathroom problem, just take the yarn and stuff with you so you can make up the time you missed crocheting while you tend to other business! Just teasing. I really feel for you, those kinds of things are so frustrating. I hope your ankle heals quickly and I will be praying for you and your Mom too. |

In answer to how my ankle is doing: I ended up going to the ER on
Friday morning. They did X-Rays and after a three hour wait I saw a
"doctor?" who came into the room with all the answers. He said nothing
showed on the X-Rays and since it was swollen I must have celluitis (a
skin disease!!) I laughed in his face and told him it was either sprained
or fractured. He insisted not!! I said you mean to tell me I got celluitis
by falling down a stair and sitting on my ankle. He got really impatient
and sarcastic then and asked me if I heard anything when I fell. I told
him now that you ask I did hear a Crack! He said he would recheck
the X-Ray. He came back told me I had a slight fracture and a chip of bone missing from my Ankle!! but he would treat it like a sprain. He
had the nurse wrap it and put a plastic air splint on it. It is still very painful and swollen!! About an hour ago I got a call from the ER. A Doctor was very concerned about the results of my X-ray and the treatment they did. They want me to come back now so they could put
a cast on it. I have to wait though and make an appointment with a
specialist because to go back to the ER to have it done they will charge
us the ER fees which our Insurance makes us pay 20% of the actual
fee. Last Year our insurance was $50 for the ER!! I am so annoyed
with them. I could have been on my way to healing already and now
I may have to start over depending on what the specialist says.
Thank you for your concern.

Joanne, I'm so sorry. I hope you don't have to wait very long for the appointment.
Am sending you much cheer, and praying for you.

That just is so wrong on so many fronts. You can't get the correct diagnosis the first time. Man I hope you give them a talking to when you go back.
I hope you can get the ankle casted and on your way to recovery. |

Thank you for your concern everyone. I ended up seeing a specialist
who was very kind but also after the almighty buck. He saw that my
toes were black and blue and right away said that there was a fracture
somewhere on my foot. He looked at my X-Ray from the ER and they only took a picture of my ankle. He then wanted me to go back to the
Hospital to get more X-Rays!! The hospital is 20 minutes away from the
doctor, it was almost 4PM and I knew that I would have to wait another few days again for an appointment besides which I knew for a fact that he
had an X-Ray machine there. I almost cried and told him that our insurance made us pay 20% of the total fee and let him see how upset I was really laying it on thick that I was treated badly there and didn't want
to go back. He finally said that he would save me some money and do the x-rays there which he did. I have a significant fracture on the side
of my foot near my pinky toe. He then gave me a prescription for a hard
shoe with velcro straps that I have to wear to 6 to eight weeks. I have
no pain from the fracture but it is my ankle (both sides of the foot that
are very painful and swollen especially in the evening.) During the day
it isn't so bad unless I walk too much. This too shall pass!!
Have a Great Day everyone.

| Oh my goodness! Joanne, things got way more complicated didn't they? I do hope you are able to get the rest you need and manage to get around fairly well. I hope you have some help. Thinking of you and wishing you fast healing. |
